With the ever-increasing technical complexity of building, fire, and disability code compliance, it is more important than ever to specify the appropriate products for security and life safety. The obligation of architects to undertake Continuous Professional Development (CPD) is therefore an important part of building a safer world.

This CPD will provide a general overview of collaborating with various parties, the importance of early product specifications and improving communication in your team. 

Learning Outcomes:

  • Collaborating with various parties at the onset of a building project
  • Discuss the importance of determining hardware preferences before the specification is written
  • Include all information needed for door hardware specifications: code and compliance, location of openings, material types and security needs
  • Provide effective documentation to enable your opening hardware specification to meet code and operate correctly
  • Improve communications to help prevent errors, time delays, code infractions, and cost overruns
