Now in its 14th year, the ML Awards program honors organizations and individuals that are shaping the future of global manufacturing. Allegion’s Tijuana Plant was named a winner for a recent project designed to produce increased quality and efficiency, including benchmarks like yield improvement, equipment uptime, scrap reduction, capacity increase and environmental impact improvement.

From 2016 to 2017, Allegion’s Tijuana Plant leadership trained nearly 200 employees on “lean” manufacturing principles and an additional 50 on problem-solving methodologies. The organization also completed 34 “kaizen” projects focused on quality.

“Ultimately, these efforts led to cost, quality and output improvement that positioned our plant for superior performance as a part of the Allegion value stream,” said Luis Eduardo Martinez, Allegion’s vice president of operations in Latin America. “Our approach to operational excellence has been deemed ‘the Allegion Way’ and, the success we continue to see is enabled by our engaged employees who are committed to better serving our customers.”

Allegion’s Tijuana Plant opened in 2009 and specializes in zinc plating components for residential and commercial door locks. Since that time, the facility has achieved clean industry certification, as well as a number of safety recognitions. Leadership and employees there are active in the community, annually supporting Habitat for Humanity Mexico as well as local orphanages.

“The companies, projects and individual leaders being honored with 2018 ML Awards are redefining excellence by embracing the technology-driven transformation that we call Manufacturing 4.0,” said Global Vice President, Editorial Director and Co-Founder of the Manufacturing Leadership Council David R. Brousell. “Their inspiring achievements are allowing their companies to anticipate and thrive through the dramatic changes now rippling through the global manufacturing marketplace.”
